Testimonial request emails that send themselves after each sale
You get testimonials by asking, and asking by hand is easy to forget once the launch is over. This sends a useful tip on day 3, then on day 7 a short ask: reply with one sentence we can quote and a 1 to 5 rating. The replies go into a Notion database with a permission checkbox.

Every node is explained below, with the matching Notion database schema, property by property.
Free. One email with the files, then occasional updates. Unsubscribe any time.
- Setup: 45 to 60 minutes
- n8n + Notion
- Uses standard n8n nodes that work on n8n Cloud and self-hosted.
How it works under the hood, node by node
- Webhook: Receives the sale event (POST /testimonial-sale).
- Wait 3 days: Pauses the run for this buyer.
- Send Email: day-3 tip: A short, useful tip so the next email isn't the first thing they hear from you.
- Wait 4 days: Brings it to day 7.
- Send Email: day-7 ask: Subject 'Got 20 seconds?': asks for one quotable sentence and a 1 to 5 rating.
| Property | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Customer | Title | |
| Rating | Number | 1 to 5 |
| Quote | Text | Their words, unedited |
| Permission | Checkbox | Tick only when they say yes to publishing |
| Status | Select | Asked, Received, Published, Declined |
Also in the download
- Both emails written out, with {{name}} and {{product}} merge fields
- The day-7 ask also invites complaints ('tell us what hurt'), which catches refund risks early
- A permission checkbox so you only ever publish quotes people agreed to
The day-7 email
Subject: Got 20 seconds?
Hey {{name}}, if {{product}} helped, hit reply with a sentence we can quote (and a 1 to 5 rating). If not, tell us what hurt. We read every reply.
Set it up
- Import the workflow and add your SMTP or email-provider credentials.
- Edit both emails: put your product name and a real tip in the day-3 one.
- Point your checkout's sale webhook at this workflow (or chain it after the Sale to Notion workflow).
- Create the Testimonials database and log replies there as they arrive.
- Test with a purchase and temporarily set both waits to one minute.
Stuck on the import? Importing an n8n workflow and setting up the Notion database cover the common snags.
Questions
Why day 7?
Long enough for the buyer to have used the product, short enough that they still remember buying it. For courses or longer products, move the ask to day 14 or 21.
Can I publish the quotes on my site?
Only with permission, which is why the database has a Permission checkbox. Publish the exact words, with the name the customer agreed to.
Do replies get logged automatically?
No. Replies come back to your inbox and you paste the good ones into Notion, a short job once a week. The Stack's weekly-ops SOP makes that part of a routine.
